Pickleball in South Charleston, West Virginia

South Charleston offers free outdoor pickleball at Jackson Park and Joplin Park, plus indoor courts at the South Charleston Community Center. Jackson and Joplin are the direct choices for groups that bring their own players. The Community Center provides the weatherproof option and uses a low daily gym fee.

Outdoor court access does not mean an organized rotation will be running. Solo players can join a game through the Charleston area PlayTime Scheduler, while beginners can use the Community Center as a staffed starting point.

Where South Charleston Players Take the Court

  • Jackson Park, 4913 McClung Street, South Charleston, WV 25309. The park has four dedicated outdoor courts with permanent lines and nets. The courts are free, lighted, and served by restrooms. Bring paddles, balls, and partners unless you have already joined a player organized session. View Jackson Park information.
  • Joplin Park, Kanawha Turnpike access, South Charleston, WV 25303. This city park has four outdoor asphalt courts with permanent lines and nets. Use is free. The park also has a paved walking path, dog park, basketball courts, and picnic shelters. Get Joplin Park details.
  • South Charleston Community Center, 601 Jefferson Road, South Charleston, WV 25309. The gym has three indoor wood pickleball courts with temporary lines and portable nets. Players age 13 and older pay $2 for daily open gym admission and must report to the ticket booth. The gym is open Monday through Friday from 5:30 AM to 7:45 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:45 PM, and Sunday from noon to 5:45 PM, though pickleball uses only designated gym periods. View gym access and rules.

Beginning at a Staffed Indoor Facility

New players can start at the South Charleston Community Center. The staffed gym provides portable nets and indoor courts, and open gym admission is $2 for players age 13 and older. Call 304-744-4731 and ask for the next pickleball gym period that welcomes beginners before making the first visit.

No recurring beginner course with current dates is published by the city. For individual instruction, use this site's Coaches section.

Local Games and Open Court Time

Jackson Park and Joplin Park are free public courts, but neither has a fixed city run open play schedule. The South Charleston Community Center offers indoor pickleball during designated gym periods rather than throughout every posted gym hour.

The Charleston area PlayTime Scheduler allows players to create or join local games before traveling to a court. It is the most direct route to an organized session at the South Charleston parks.

A Practical Plan for Visiting Players

Solo visitors can join a game through the Charleston area PlayTime Scheduler before choosing a court. Select a South Charleston session, note the skill level and start time, and arrive with a paddle and balls. The Community Center is the indoor alternative; call 304-744-4731 for the pickleball gym period and pay the $2 daily gym fee at the ticket booth.

Visitors with partners can use Jackson Park or Joplin Park without a fee. Jackson Park is the stronger evening choice because the courts are lighted and restrooms are available. Joplin Park provides another four court complex on the Kanawha Turnpike side of the city.
